Map of Am Baisteir
Most days of the year the ocean clearly tells us that we don’t belong out there, but as we gain confidence with the boat, the waves and the currents, we expand our research radius. This summer we have been going out quite a bit further and gained interest in the many uninhabited island and rocks.
On the 21st of July, Rutger dropped Miek off on Am Baisteir, a small rocky Island near the bay of Knockvologan only to pick her up again 24 hours later. During her stay, Miek created a map of the rock which was printed on the cover of De Witte Raaf, a Belgium journal for contemporary Art. The drawing consists of sketches of the stone formations, flora and fauna accompanied by observations and thoughts. She used self brewed oak gall and rusty nail ink to draw.
