KNOCKvologan Studio is a catalyst for cultural and environmental imagination.
We believe that when a place is seen through many eyes, experienced through many senses, and engaged with from many angles, it reveals new possibilities. We work as a creative instigator — sparking dialogue, research, and experimentation that connect local realities with global currents.
Based on the Ross of Mull, we bring together residents, visiting thinkers, and makers to explore the relationships between humans and the living world. Through art, literature, food, gardening, and the shared experience of the land and sea, we generate ideas, stories, and prototypes for a more sustainable and equitable future.
Our work draws on diverse ways of knowing — from crofters to scientists, poets to carpenters — recognising that each perspective carries knowledge and value. By holding these differences in constructive conversation, we aim to move beyond polarisation and towards cultures that are inclusive, resilient, and ecologically rooted.
As a creative research hub, we challenge the conventions that limit our collective imagination — in policy, in consumer culture, and in the stories we tell about prosperity. Through beauty, curiosity, and critical reflection, we nurture visions of how communities can live well while enhancing biodiversity, strengthening solidarity, and sustaining the places we call home.
We are a member of Green Art Lab Alliance. Gala is an informal, international network of art organisations contributing to environmental sustainability through their creative practice. We are all committed to our co-written Manifesto and act according to our Objectives.
